♦ Avia Express was founded in 1940 as Avia by Mr. and Mrs. Thuring in Fårösund. Activities included target towing. In 1945 the airline expanded to air taxi and mail services. Regular flights started in 1986. Merged with rival carrier Salair, owned by shipping company Salenia, on 15Jul1991 and rebranded as Skyways in 1993 after Salenia becomes the sole owner of the airline. Acquired Highland Air in Mar1997. Ceased operations on 22May2012 ♦
