♦ Skywest Aviation has its origins in the launch of Carnarvon Air Taxis in 1963 flying charter flights with small general aviation aircraft out of Carnarvon, Western Australia. On 19Feb1980 Skywest Airlines was formed from Skywest Aviation, based at Perth Airport, and acquired Stillwell Airlines and its routes. In Jan1982, Transwest Airlines was taken over by Skywest Airlines. Acquired by TNT in 1990 and merged with Lloyd Aviation as part of Ansett Australia. During 1990, Lloyd Aviation Jet Charter lost 2 major contracts. This resulted in a decision to close-down the company and merge its charter operations into Skywest Aviation. Acquired by Airline Investments following the collapse of Ansett in 2002. Acquired in Aug2006 by Singapore-based investment group CaptiveVision Capital. The new owner rebranded, first as as Skywest Aviation in1979 and then as SkyWest Airlines in1980. Again rebranded, this time as Virgin Australia Regional Airlines on 07May2013
