Bristol Air Taxi was formed in 1932 by Norman Edgar to fly chocolate consignments uder contract to J.S. Fry. Flew Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Weston-Super-Mare. Name changed to Western Airways (Norman Edgar) in 1934. On 18-Oct1938, the Straight Corporation, headed by Whitney Straight purchased control of Norman Edgar (Western Airways). and renamed it Western Airways. On 3 September 1939, war with Germany was declared and the National Air Communications (NAC) organisation came into action. Western Airways’ airline operations restarted in Jul1946, when the Ministry of Civil Aviation permitted services on the Weston – Cardiff air ferry route. Unsure as to when Western Airways finally stopped operating but the manufacturing side went on until 1978
