WESTERN AIRLINES was formed in 1925 as WESTERN AIR EXPRESS and acquired COLORADO AIRWAYS in 1927, PACIFIC MARINE AIRWAYS in 1928, WEST COAST AIR TRANSPORT in 1929, STANDARD AIR LINES in 1930 and MID-CONTINENT AIRLINES in 1931. Merged with PITTSBURGH AVIATION CORP. and TRANSCONTINENTAL AIR TRANSPORT to form TRANSCONTINENTAL & WESTERN AIR. Reformed as GENERAL AIRLINES. Eventually renamed to WESTERN AIR LINES. Acquired PNA in 1961 and was incorporated into DELTA AIR LINES in 1987. Operations of Western and Delta were officially merged on 01Apr1987
