AeroMexico entered bankruptcy and was liquidated in Apr1988. Governemt stepped & renamed it to Transportes Aéreos Federales
– [AeroMexico was founded on 14Sep1934 by Antonio Diaz Lombardo & commenced operations as Aeronaves de Mexico on 15Sep1934. Acquired TRANSPORTES AEREOS de PACIFICO in 1940, TAXI AEREO de OAXACA in 1943 and LINEAS AEREAS JESUS SARABIA in 1944. Also acquired was LAMSA in 1952, Aerovias REFORMA in 1954, AEROLINEAS MEXICANAS and TRANS MAR de CORTES in 1960, Aerovias GUEST in 1961. Rebranded as AeroMéxico in Feb1972. Entered bankruptcy and was liquidated in 1988, ceasing all operations. The federal government consequently took over the operation of major domestic services, under the name Transportes Aéreos Federales, in April 1988. Reformed in September 1988 as a new company, Aerovias de Mexico, majority-owned by Bancomer Bank and continuing to do business as AeroMéxicoCommenced operations with current name on 01Oct1988
