Tata Sons

The Aviation Department of Tata Sons was formed in Jul1932 as the first commercial airline set up by Indians with local money and personnel. Opened the first airmail route in India, between Karachi & Madras on 15Oct1932. renamed to Tata Air Services in 1938 & shortly after to Tata Air Lines. It converted to a public Company and was renamed Air India Limited on 29Jul1946
