
Shanghai-Chengtu Air Mail Line was the first passenger/air mail service in China. Its inaugural flight was on 08Jul1929 [CAAC (formed on 02Nov1949) took over the operations of SKOGA (established on 01Jul1950) a joint Soviet-Communist China airline on 01Jan1955. On 01Jul1988 CAAC was split into the separate divisions and each one given it’s own name (Air China (which inherited the IATA and ICAO code of the original CAAC), China Southwest Airlines (merged with Air China in 2002, originally based in Chengdu) China Eastern Airlines (based in Shanghai) China Northwest Airlines (merged with China Eastern in 2002, originally based in Xi’an) China Southern Airlines (based in Guangzhou) China Northern Airlines (merged with China Southern in 2003, originally based in Shenyang). Air China was the Beijing based international division. Absorbed Inner Mongolian Airlines in 1995 and integrated China Southwest Airlines and Zhejiang Airlines in in 2003]
