In 1941, Air Services of India was purchased by The Scindia Steam Navigation Company Ltd. & became known as the Scindia line. Services resumed on 03May1946 after World War II
– [INDIAN AIRLINES (Corporation) was formed in 1953 on the nationalisation of 8 Indian airlines (DECCAN AIRWAYS, AIRWAYS-INDIA, BHARAT AIRWAYS, HIMALAYAN AVIATION, KALINGA AIR LINES, INDIAN NATIONAL AIRWAYS, AIR INDIA and AIR SERVICES of INDIA. Took over VAYUDOOT in 1998. Renamed to just INDIAN in 2005 & merged into AIR INDIA on 26Feb2011] [AIR INDIA was formed as the Aviation Department of Tata Sons in Jul1932 as the first commercial airline set up by Indians with local money and personnel. Opened the first airmail route in India, between Karachi & Madras on 15Oct1932. renamed to Tata Air Services in 1938 & shortly after to Tata Air Lines. It converted to a public Company and was renamed Air India Limited on 29Jul1946) Renamed to AIR-INDIA INTERNATIONAL in 1948 and AIR INDIA in 1962.
