♦ Royal Hawaiian Air Service was founded by Woodson Woods and Johnny Peacock in 1963 as Hawaii Wings. Air taxi and tour operator around the Big Island using Cessna 402 aircraft. McBride Sugar leased the land the runway was on to RHAS for 20 years. The runway and small terminal were built and in service in 1965. When the lease was up, McBride didn’t renew, and RHAS shut down soon thereafter
