During the was, a network of Lignes Aériennes Militaires ( LAM) was set up in Damascus. Run by Lionel de Marmier, under the authority of the General de Gaulle, its purpose was to link up the territories of Free France. It was replaced in early 1945 by the Réseau des Lignes Aériennes Françaises ( RLAF). On 26Jun1945, the French civil aviation industry was nationalized and the former private company Air France became state-owned. A decision on 29Dec1945 terminated the activities of the RLAF and turned the entire French airline network over to the Société Nationale Air France
