♦ Although Philippine Airlines (PAL) was officially founded on 26Feb1941, its license to operate as an airliner was derived from merged Philippine Aerial Taxi Company (PATCO) established by mining magnate Emmanuel N. Bachrach on 03Dec1930, making it Asia’s oldest scheduled carrier still in operation. On 18Mar1931, it made its first round-trip flight between Manila and Iloilo. The company became dormant for six years on its scheduled passenger operation under its assigned routes. Soriano and former senator Ramón J. Fernández acquired the franchise of Philippine Aerial Taxi Company, Inc. and renamed Philippine Airways
