National Airlines, founded by George T. Baker in 1934, launched revenue flights on 15Oct1934 as National Airline System, initially run by Ted Baker and then Bud Maytag. Merged with GULF AIRLINES which was a non-airline, in 1934. Renamed to it’s final name in 1937. National Airlines acquisition was completed with Pan American taking over the National Airlines fleet and route network on 07Jan1980
– [PAN AM was formed as Aviation Corp. of The Americas and operated as PAN AM AIRWAYS. Name was officially changed in 1931. Was the first airline to employ radio communications (1928) and the first to to make a global flight (1942). Formed PACIFIC ALASKA AIRWAYS in 1931 and integrated it in in 1940*. Acquired AOA in 1950, NATIONAL AIRLINES in 1980 and RANSOME AIRLINES in 1986. Ransome Airlines was then renamed to PAN AM EXPRESS. Pan Am want into bankruptcy in Jan1991 and ceased operating on 04Dec1991]
