SIA was incorporated as Mercury Singapore Airlines on 28Jan1972 (this was to try and reatain the MSA initials. It was then renamed Singapore Airlines on 30/Jun/1972 the same year

[ – MAS (Malaysia Airways) was formed as Malayan Airways in 1937 and commenced operations in 1947. Renamed to Malaysian Airlines in 1963 after the new state of Malaysia was formed. The airline was then renamed to MSA (Malaysia-Singapore Airlines) in 1967 and restructured into the 2 separate airlines. MAS being one and SIA being the other. SIA was established on 28Jan1972 and operations started 01Oct1972. Launch customer for the long range A340-300 in 1996. Singapore Airlines’ regional arm, SilkAir, underwent a significant upgrading of its cabin products as part of plans to eventually merge with Singapore Airlines (SIA). The last flight as SilkAir was on 26May2021 to Kathmandu
