KHD Karl Herfurtner Dusseldorf (Luftreederei Karl Herfurtner)

KHD was a charter airline operated by well known Dusseldorf hotelier Karl Herfurtner in mid 1950s. Company was acquired by Dr. H Tigges and Dr. A Fischer who owned Tigges Fahrten travel agency that was principal customer of KHD. Tigges and Fischer reorganized the airline into Transavia Fluggesellschaft
– [Transavia Flug was a short-lived charter airline, which stopped its operation in early 1959. The company based at Düsseldorf Airport was originally founded in 1955 under the name Luftreederei Karl Herfurtner (KHD). Charter flight operations started in Feb1956 using three Vickers 610 Viking 1B. After the crash of a KHD aircraft on 03Nov1957 in Dusseldorf, in which his daughter was killed, Karl Herfurtner ended his involvement in aviation in the same month, selling off his airline to the tour operator Dr Tigges.
