Impulse Airlines was formed as a small freight carrier by Gerry and Sue McGowan in 1992. It started operations on 18Dec1992 following the acquisition of Oxley Airlines from the receivers in Dec1992. It commenced regional airline services in Mar1994. In Nov2001, Impulse was absorbed into the QantasLink group of subsidiary airlines. The fleet of Impulse Airline’s 717s were used for Jetstar’s fleet when the airline officially launched domestic passenger service between Newcastle, New South Wales and Sydney on 24May2004, one day before Impulse Airlines ceased operation

[ – Qantas’s Jetstar was founded in 2003 as a lo-cost subsidiary and commenced domestic operations on 25May2004. Qantas’s entry into low-cost market was achieved by purchasing Impulse Airlines on 20Nov2001 and relaunching it under current name. Domestic passenger services began on 25May2004. In July 2006, Jetstar and Jetstar Asia were brought together under the Jetstar brand. Online bookings for both carriers were integrated into Jetstar.com.
