♦ On 27May1938, Arthur Williams and his partner John Henry Hunter, a British subject, registered a private company known as the British Guiana Airways which would dominate the aviation industry for a considerable period in British Guiana. In Sep1963, the name was changed to Guyana Airways. In Jun1999, the airline went bankrupt and ceased operations with its assets being used to form Guyana Airways 2000
Guyana Airways 2000 was the successor to Guyana Airways as it used the assets of. It operated its first flight on 17Jun1999 to Toronto, Canada. The carrier ceased operations in May2001 and filed for insolvency
