Florida Airways was formed by Eddie Rickenbacker and Reed Chambers in 1923 and started services from Paxon Field in the same year
[- PAN AM (i) was formed as Aviation Corp. of The Americas and operated as PAN AM AIRWAYS. Name was officially changed in 1931. Formed PACIFIC ALASKA AIRWAYS in 1931 and integrated it in in 1940*. Acquired AOA in 1950, NATIONAL AIRLINES in 1980 and RANSOME AIRLINES in 1986. Ransome Airlines was then renamed to PAN AM EXPRESS. Pan Am want into bankruptcy in Jan1991 and ceased operating on 04Dec1991. PAN AM was the first airline to employ radio communications (1928) and the first to to make a global flight (1942). Pan Am was first operator of Fairchild FC-2 in 1927, Sikorsky S-36 in 1927, Sikorsky S-40 in 1932, Sikorsky S-42 in 1935, Martin M-130 in 1935, Boeing Model 314 in 1939, Boeing 306 Stratoliner in 1940, Lockheed L.049 Constellation in 1946, Boeing Model 377 Stratocruiser in 1948, Douglas DC7 in 1955, Boeing B707-100 in 1958, Boeing B747-100 in 1969, and Boeing B747SP in 1976.
