Eastar Jet was established by major shareholder Eastar Group on 26Oct2007. It inaugurated its first domestic service, Seoul to Jeju, on 07Jan2009 and launched international services on 24Dec2009, with a flight from Incheon to Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia. South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) reportedly suspended Eastar Jet’s air operator’s certificate (AOC) on 23May2020, due to the LCC’s suspension of operations for more than 60 days. The carrier is working to remedy the situation. The carrier plans to file for court receivership by the end of Jan2021 in a last-ditch effort to find a new investor. Eastar Jet has now confirmed that it on track for a first half of 2022 relaunch, delaying from 4Q2021
