dba was formed as Delta Air Regionalflugverkehr IN 1978. Purchased by British Airways in 1992 and renamed to Deutsche BA. Changed to low-fare operator and renamed to dba in 2002. Merged with Germania Express (Gexx) in 2005, retaining own name. In Aug2006, Air Berlin acquired German domestic airline dba. Flight operations at dba were continued as a fully owned subsidiary of Air Berlin until 14Nov2008, when the dba brand was discontinued due to staff strikes

[ – airberlin was formed as a US charter company in 1978 by Lelco, an American company in in Portland, Oregon and started operations on 28Apr1979 as Air Berlin (USA) with a flight from Berlin-Tegel to Palma de Mallorca. Established as a German carrier on 16Apr1991 (following German reunification). In Aug2006, Air Berlin acquired German domestic airline dba (flight operations at dba were continued as a fully owned subsidiary of Air Berlin until 14Nov2008, when the dba brand was discontinued due to staff strikes) and LTU International Airways in 2009 (On 01May2009, the LTU brand was discontinued). Air Berlin filed for insolvency on 15Aug2017 and its last flight was on 27Oct2017
