CUBANA was founded by the Curtiss Aviation Group as CUBANA de AVACION CURTISS on 08Oct1929 and operations started on 30Oct1930. The name was changed to COMPANIA NACIONAL CUBANA de AVIACION in 1932 when it was taken over by Pan Am. The name changed again in 1944 to COMPANIA CUBANA de AVIACION. The first international flight was in 1946 to Miami followed in 1947 by flights to Madrid. In May 1959, Cuba’s revolutionary government decided to take over Cubana, expropriating all its investors. The private passenger airline Aerovías Q and private cargo carriers Cuba Aeropostal and Expreso Aéreo Interamericano, were then merged into Cubana, which was rebranded as Empresa Consolidada Cubana de Aviación. The new Cubana started operation on 27Jun1961
