Capitol Helicopters was an unsuccessful attempt to create a helicopter commuter airline for Washington DC. It was established in late 1983 at Dulles International Airport. Flights begin in early 1984 linking Capitol’s base with Baltimore (BWI) via the downtown district’s National Airport. Without any subsidies and little public demand for its high-priced, uncompetitive service, the debt-ridden new entrant cannot generate the traffic or finances to continue and consequently, was shut down in 3Q1984
