Cambrian Airways was set up on 25Apr1935 as Cambrian Air Services. With the outbreak of World War II, Cambrian stopped its activities but commencing on 01Jan1946 it was the first British airline to restart operations after WWII. During 1953, Cambrian took over Murray Chown Aviation in 1953 and began services between Southampton to Dinard and Paris. It was renamed to Cambrian Airways in 1956. On 01Apr1974, Cambrian + BEA + BOAC + Northeast Airlines merged to form British Airways

[ – British Airways (ii) – Following the recommendations of the 1969 Edwards Report that a new British Airways Board, managing both BOAC (British Overseas Airways Corp.), BEA (British European Airways), and the two regional British airlines Cambrian Airways based at Cardiff, and Northeast Airlines based at Newcastle upon Tyne, was constituted on 01Apr1972, establishing British Airways as an airline on 31Mar1974. BA started operations on 01Apr1974. British Asia Airways, a subsidiary based in Taiwan, was formed in March 1993 to operate between London and Taipei. The carrier acquired BCAL (British Caledonian Airways) (1988) and Dan-Air (1992). In Jul2008, British Airways announced a merger plan with Iberia, another flag carrier airline in the Oneworld alliance, wherein each airline would retain its original brand. bmi was purchased on 30Mar2012
