British Yukon Navigation Company, the Canadaian subsidiary of the White Pass Company (Skagway) was founded in 1935. For the next six years, the B.Y.N Company operated a variety of aircraft, serving communities throughout the Yukon. In 1942, after a series of setbacks, including three tragic crashes, the B.Y.N. Co. sold its entire air division to Yukon Southern Air Transport in Dec1941, which, before the year was out, merged with nine other airlines to form Canadian Pacific Airlines
[ – Yukon Southern Air Transport (YSAT) was formed on 16Jan1938 as a name change of United Air Transport (UAT), which was owned and operated by George W. (“Grant”) McConachie. McConachie had formed UAT, based in Edmonton, Alberta, in 1933, and brought UAT service to the Yukon on 05Jul1937, when he landed a float-equipped Ford Tri-Motor on the Yukon River at Whitehorse. In 1941, the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) bought YSAT as well as Canadian Airways and 8 other small airlines, and on 24Mar1942, they were consolidated as Canadian Pacific Air Lines (CPA) ]
[ – CPA (Canadian Pacific Airlines) was formed on 30/Jan/1942 when C P Railway Co. purchased ten bush airlines in a short time span, (Ginger Coote Airways, Southern Air Transport, Wings, Prairie Airways, Mackenzie Air Services, Arrow Airways, Starratt Airways, Quebec Airways and Montreal & Dominion Skyways finishing with the purchase of Canadian Airways) Renamed to CP Air in 1968 ]
[ – AIR CANADA was founded as TRANS-CANADA AIR LINES on 10/Apr/1937 starting with mail flights between Vancouver and Seattle. It was renamed to its current name on 01/Jan/1965. Air Canada acquired Canadian Airlines on 04/Jan/2000 and subsequently merged it’s operations in
