♦ Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) traces its history back to the establishment of the Aeroflot Azerbaijan directorate in Baku in 1923 and was established on 07Apr1992. AZAL split off from Aeroflot on the breakup of the Soviet Union. Azerbaijan Airlines is to merge its operations with its subsidiary operator Buta Airways, and unify them under the main carrier’s AZAL brand in Oct2023
