Ad Astra Aero S.A. was founded in Zurich on 15Dec1919 and on 24Feb1920 it merged with the Frick & Co and Aero-Gesellschaft Comte Mittelholzer & Co to form Ad Astra Aero A.G. The airline then merged with Avion Tourisme to form Ad Astra Aero, Avion Tourisme S. A. One more merger, this time with Balair formed Swissair
[ – Swissair was formed in 1931 by the merger of two pioneering Swiss airlines Ad Astra and Balair. Swissair began services between Zürich and London on 01Apr1935. Launch customer for A310-200 in 1983 along with Lufthansa. First operator of F.100 and MD81 (DC9-81) in 1980 and A319 in 1996. Ceased operations in late 2001 due to financial difficulties. Restarted in a different form after assets were taken over by Crossair and the entirety was called SWISS
