Ad Astra Aero S.A. was founded in Zurich on 15Dec1919 and on 24Feb1920 it merged with the Frick & Co and Aero-Gesellschaft Comte Mittelholzer & Co to form Ad Astra Aero A.G. The airline then merged with Avion Tourisme to form Ad Astra Aero, Avion Tourisme S. A. One more merger, this time with Balair formed Swissair

[ – Swissair was formed in 1931 by the merger of two pioneering Swiss airlines Ad Astra and Balair. Swissair began services between Zürich and London on 01Apr1935. Launch customer for A310-200 in 1983 along with Lufthansa. First operator of F.100 and MD81 (DC9-81) in 1980 and A319 in 1996. Ceased operations in late 2001 due to financial difficulties. Restarted in a different form after assets were taken over by Crossair and the entirety was called SWISS

[ – Crossair was founded on 14Feb1975 and commenced services as Business Flyers Basel on 02Jul1975. Renamed on 18Nov1978, before the beginning of scheduled services on 02Jul1979. It became Swiss International Air Lines after taking over most of the assets of Swissair following that airline’s bankruptcy in 2002

[ – SWISS was formed as Business Flyers Basel by Maurice Suter. Renamed to Crossair just prior to starting scheduled services. Launch customer for Saab 340A/B in 1984 and Saab 2000.
