Aviaarktika was the flying branch of the Department of Polar Aviation of Glavsevmorput. Started operations on 01Sep1930 and was absorbed by Aeroflot on 03Jan1960
– [Aeroflot Russian Airlines was formed as Dobrolyot (Dobrolet) in 1923 but changed to Dobroflot after absorbing the Ukranian company Ukrvozdukhput. In 1932 all civil aviation activities were reorganised as Grazdansij Wozdusnyi Flot, simply known as AEROFLOT. Joined by POLAR AVIATION DIVISION in 1964. AEROFLOT was the largest airline in the world in 1989. Reorganised and renamed to AEROFLOT RUSSIAN INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES on 28Jul1992 and later dropped the ‘INTERNATIONAL’
