
Australian Airlines (i) was renamed from TAA (Trans Australian Airlines) in 1986. Took over Air Queensland on 30Apr1988 and was acquired by Qantas Empire Airways (which renamed to Qantas in 1967). Qantas acquired Australian Airlines on 14Sep1992 and merged Australian Airlines in on 30Apr1994
[ – QANTAS started as a charter company known as Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Service on 16Nov1920, founded by Paul McGinness and Hudson Fysh. It began mail operations in Mar1921 and began scheduled flights on 02Nov1922. In Dec1934 it was renamed to Qantas Empire Airways, formed by Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Service and Imperial Airways (UK). In 1967, the airline placed orders for the Boeing 747 and Qantas Empire Airways changed its name to Qantas Airways. Purchased Australian Airlines (fomerly TAA) in 1982. Had SOUTHERN AUSTRALIAN AIRLINES merge in in 2002
