Channel Flying was formed in 1953 as Juneau Air Taxi Service and changed to Loken Air Charter in 1961. The Channel Flying name was adopted in 1964 following merger with Channel Flying Service. Operated a scheduled service around Alaska and is based in Juneau. The name existed until 1990 when it was renamed to Loken Aviation. Alaska Seaplanes was renamed in 1997 by Craig and Aral Loken. In 2011, the Lokens sold Alaska Seaplanes to former Wings of Alaska managers Mike Stedman and Kent Craford. The next year the partners expanded into the wheel plane market with the acquisition of Air Excursions, a long-time Gustavus based air taxi company founded by Steve Wilson and later owned by veteran pilot/mechanic Mike Loverink. In the Spring of 2013, the two sister companies united their operations under one brand–Alaska Seaplanes
