♦ Akarana Air has its origin in Tasman Air Services which, in Aug1968, was granted an Air Services Licence to operate air charter and air taxi Services from Auckland with a Piper Navajo. There was little demand for the company and the Navajo was sold to the Ministry of Transport in Dec1969. J V M Kean Ltd, which was a minority shareholder, reached an agreement whereby the licence was transferred to it in May1970. Approval was also given for the change of aircraft from a Piper Navajo to a Piper Twin Comanche. The licence and company ownership changed to Air Colombus in May1972 and then, in Aug1972, the company name was changed to Akarana Air. At about the same time an announcement was made that Akarana Air and Air North had signed an agreement to merge their companies. Air Akarana was wound up on the 09May1979 ♦
