♦ airmalta was established on 31Mar1973 as the successor to The Malta Airlines. The carrier operated its first flight on 01Apr1974. The government of Malta announced on on 02Oct2023 it will formally close down Air Malta on 30Mar2024 and launch a new airline a day later. The new airline will officially be called KM Malta Airlines
