♦ CGTA (Compagnie Générale de Transports Aériens Air Algérie) was formed through merger between SACA (Societie Algerienne de Constructions Aeronautiques) (formed on 15Mar1947) and CAT (COMPAGNIE AIR TRANSPORT). International and regional passenger and cargo airline that was the flag carrier of Algeria ♦

♦ Air Algeries’ origins date back to the 1946 creation by French steamship line CGT of an Algiers-based, non-scheduled airline operation, Compagnie Générale de Transport Aériens (CGTA). Established through CGTA’s 23May1953 merger with Compagnie Air Transport (CAT). Initially linked Algiers with Paris and other major French cities. Had IAS (Inter Air Services) merge in in 1987. Renamed as Air Algérie following Algeria’s independence in Jul1962 and designated as the national carrier the following year ♦
