The United Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy in north-western Europe, officially the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Air Charter inaugurated its first vehicle ferry service between Southend and Calais using a Bristol 170 Mark 32 Super Freighter on 14Apr1955. Also was used on Berlin Airlift. Initially a car ferry service. These Bristol 170s were the last flying operations of the type, which had been employed on charter runs as far afield as Christmas Island during its career with Air Charter.
