1947 - 1960

^ Comments : AIR CHARTER was founded in 1947. It was Freddie Laker's first entry into owning an airline using Bovingdon and Croydon. Air Charter inaugurated its first vehicle ferry service between Southend and Calais using a Bristol 170 Mark 32 Super Freighter on 14Apr1955. Also was used on Berlin Airlift. Initially a car ferry service. These Bristol 170s were the last flying operations of the type, which had been employed on charter runs as far afield as Christmas Island during its career with Air Charter. Air Charter's operations were absorbed into the newly formed BUA, as a result of the Airwork — Hunting-Clan merger in Jun1960
